NAICS codes are one of the primary methods of describing industries in government work. NAICS (pronounced "nakes") stands for North American Industry Classification System. The system is updated every five years. The next update is planned for 2012. You can find more information about NAICS by visiting the U.S. Census Bureau's NAICS page.
Since NAICS plays such a central role in government contracting, teaming and subcontracting, it is critical thay you choose the correct NAICS codes to describe what your company does. In addition to choosing the correct codes, it is also important that your codes are updated wherever potential contracting partners (government agencies, prime contractors, partners, ect.) may be looking. First among these is to make sure your CCR registration.
NAICS codes are six digit numerical sequences organized in a hierarchy. The top level of the hierarchy is the two digit sector code.
